Juniors Welcome

To All Junior Golfers

Best wishes for the forthcoming season. Oakdale is a busy club but juniors do have reserved times for their competitions. Please take advantage and try to enter as many competitions as you can. Remember the handicap system gives everybody both a chance to succeed against better players and the opportunity to show improvement. Be bold and enter the knockout competitions, making sure you complete matches by the deadlines.

The Junior Coordinators are there to support you. Do not hesitate to ask for advice.

It is a privilege to belong to a club like Oakdale. We are proud of our junior section and expect juniors to respect the traditions and ideals of the club and to conduct themselves responsibly at all times.

Junior Section Entry System

Oakdale Golf Club Junior Section offers boys and girls up to the age of 18 the opportunity to develop their game in a friendly and supportive environment. We welcome new members of all standards ranging from complete beginners to good players. If you are new to the game, we will provide the tuition to make you proficient: if you have a strong game, you will have the opportunity to compete for a place in our successful Junior Team, winners of the 2008 Regional finals of the Home Nations Championship.

Any junior interested in joining Oakdale Golf Club is welcome to obtain an application form from the Club Secretary, Mr Mike Cross on Harrogate 567162, which they should complete and return. An informal meeting will then be arranged with the Junior Coordinator.

Oakdale Golf Club has a structured approach to the induction of young people into the sport both from the points of view of technique and etiquette. Until a particular level of competence is achieved, the junior must be supervised on the course. Normally this will be by his/her sponsor, but where no sponsor is available we have a group of volunteers happy to fulfil this important role under the Club’s child protection policy.

The Club sets a high priority on coaching for juniors. Funding is set aside so that all juniors have an annual entitlement to at least one lesson from our Professional but we will offer additional lessons to beginners who have newly joined the Club.

Handicap Categories for Oakdale Junior Competitions.

Boys up to –14.4 First Division Status played off white tees when applicable
