Oakdale First Team

Oakdale GC are justifiably proud of the many successes of its dedicated Scratch team, a squad drawn from over 20 Category One golfers comprising of experienced Senior players and exciting Junior talent.

In terms of the Harrogate and District Union of golf clubs (HDUGC) the Scratch team have proven difficult to beat over the last five years,  winning the Four Man team Championships three times and the 2009 Scratch Matchplay League, in which they won twelve and drew one of the seasons thirteen fixtures.

At County level for the last two years Oakdale have been the HDUGC's sole representatives in the First Division of the Yorkshire Scratch Team Championships and will, for the third successive year, be competing in the demanding 36 hole event this year being held at Malton & Norton GC in August.

Individual successes match the Team efforts; Tom Hesketh, who later turned professional in 2009, represented Yorkshire at Junior and Senior level as well as the English Golf Union in the World and European Boys Team Championships whilst Curtis Wilding has recorded wins in, Yorkshire Order of Merit events alongside representing the County and last year reaching the last sixteen in the Yorkshire Championships.

The finest individual performance in 2009 came from Wayne Crick in winning the Ogden Trophy, the individual 36 hole HDUGC Scratch Championship.

Oakdale Tigers form the backbone of the Harrogate Union Scratch Teams at Junior and Senior level and in Septembr 2009 both Wayne and Curtis were part of the historic HDUGC six man team who were victorious in the Yorkshire Inter District Championships.

It is no surprise that the Oakdale Putter, our 36 hole scratch trophy and the Oakdale Acorn, our prestigous Yorkshire Order of Merit open tournament are such popular and fiercely contested events.
