Congratulations to Anne & Andy Partridge who won the 2011 Centenary Stroller Trophy . Their 5 best scores over the series of 7 Mixed 9 Hole events through the summer ensured a comfortable victory from Karen Leake & Chris McVey in second place. Dot & Barry Plummer were pipped into 3rd place by just 1 point. (Full scores are available on the Centenary link on the website.)

Thank you to everyone who has supported these events over the summer to raise funds for the Centenary fund. Dates are in the diary for the 2012 event and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Congratulations to Olivia Jackson who received her Yorkshire colours from the YLCGA President Brenda Parker.

Congratulations to Lady Captain Jean Ogden who won the HDUGC Ladies Seniors Championship at Otley last Thursday with 38 points. Also in the prizes were Brenda Leeming who won the 70+ age group with 34 points and to Marlene Thorpe, 2nd in the 65-69 group with 33 points and Jane Henderson, 2nd in the 55-59 group with 35 points.

The semi finals and finals of the YLCGA Scratch team championships were held at Hallamshire on Monday. Unfortunately, the team of Olivia Jackson, Karen Leake, Joyce Slater, Penny Baxter, Cath Varley, Olivia Lambert & Patsy Rochester lost to Huddersfield in the morning, following some very tight matches in very windy conditions. The team would like to thank all those who caddied and came to support - it was very much appreciated. The Club can be very proud of the team who were certainly up against it, playing opponents with lower handicaps and we look forward to our 2012 campaign.

Congatulations to Wayne Crick who has been selected to represent Harrogate & District Union in the Inter-district Team Championships at Forest Park on September 11th.

Olivia Jackson has been selected to play for Yorkshire against Cheshire on 28th August at Heaton Moor GC. We wish Olivia and the team all the best. Her excellent results at the Northern Girls Championships at Durham City on Wednesday (1st round 77 & 2nd round 80) resulting in a handicap reduction to 7 should fill her with confidence. She was second in the under 14 category and shared the best net score in the morning. An excellent performance!

Congratulations to Wayne Crick, Curtis Wilding, Chris Henderson & Andy Binks who battled the elements at Cleveland last Wednesday to retain Oakdale's position in the first division. They finished in 8th place & ensured Oakdale's position in Division 1 for next year.

The Harrogate & District Union of Golf Clubs has an inter club visiting scheme. You can purchase a book of tickets from Mike Cross for x £7.50 that entitles you to play the following clubs in the Union, Bedale, Harrogate, Ilkley, Knaresborough, Masham, Oakdale, Otley, Pannal, Thirsk & Northallerton, Romanby and Rudding Park.

Rules of the scheme are;

• The scheme will operate exclusively for members including Lady members of the constituent clubs.
• A book of tickets entitle the holder, on payment of half the normal green fee, to 1 round of golf at each of the courses and are limited to one per member per calendar year.
• The details required on the front of the book of tickets are to be completed at the time of purchase.
• Tickets are not transferable and are not valid for Saturdays, Sundays or Public holidays, or for club or social outings.
• Holders must complete the appropriate ticket at the time of signing in to play and surrender it with payment of half the normal green fee.

Did you know the Passport Golf Scheme allows members to play 18 holes at the clubs listed below for the equivalent of either half the relevant green fee or the cost of playing with a member of that club.

It is up to the individual concerned to contact the host club, arrange the golf and explain that you would like to take advantage of the scheme.

Participating clubs are Bingley St Ives, Bradford Hawksworth, Horsforth, Howley Hall, Keighley, Leeds Cobble Hall, Oakdale, Pannal, Sandmoor, Scarcroft, Shipley Beckfoot, Wetherby.   

The Yorkshire Union have introduced a County Card.

The card will be available, for an annual fee of £10 to lady and gentlemen members over 18 years of age, of affiliated golf clubs that have registered to partake in the scheme.

Card holders will be able to visit a registered club signed up to the scheme, by arrangement, in advance, with the secretary/manager of the club to be visited and play at a time which suits the club and at a green fee rate set by that club.
