Oakdale Golf Club has a very active and well-established Ladies Section which aims to provide enjoyable golf that caters for all abilities and age groups in a relaxed, friendly and welcoming environment.  We have over 100 lady members, most of whom compete in handicap qualifying and non-qualifying competitions throughout the year.

The Ladies play their competitions on Tuesdays and Sundays, giving those ladies who work the opportunity to play competitive golf and participate in all the Trophy and Board competitions.  Oakdale GC runs three teams in the Yorkshire Inter-Club Championships and has been very successful in recent years.  In 2016 our B Team won the YLCGA Team Trophy and qualified for the Final again in 2017, achieving fourth place.  Also in 2017, our Scratch Team won Division 2 and were promoted to Division 1 of the Scratch Team League.  We compete in the Harrogate and District Union of Golf Clubs Winter League which we have won for the past three years.  The club has also achieved both team and individual success in the Union’s Summer Divisional Championships.

Three of our Ladies have been elected to the YVLGA committee:  Karen Leake is Vice Captain, Patsy Rochester is Competition Secretary and Joyce Slater elected for two years.  At the YVLGA Annual General Meeting two trophies were awarded to Oakdale Ladies: Jane Henderson and Lindsey Holt won the 4BBB competition at Brough and three Oakdale Ladies (Karen Leake, Patsy Rochester and Joyce Slater) were part of the team that won the Dewsbury Trophy at Filey; the fourth member of the team was Alison Clark (Hull GC).  In 2018 Oakdale Ladies continued their success winning the following YLCGA Trophies: Helen Drake Salver and Gold Medals (Patsy Rochester, Joyce Slater and Mary Gray-Smith), the Hamilton Trophy and Silver Medals (Jane Henderson, Olivia Lambert and Lindsey Holt),  and the Ilkley Trophy (Anne Birtles and Ronnie Hague).

Apart from the formal competitions we run ‘fun’ competitions over the winter months, organise an Exchange Day and have friendly inter-club and inter-section matches.  Throughout the year we run mixed competitions which are always very popular.  We aim to provide competitive and social golf for all levels of golfer.  If you wish to improve your game, our PGA Professional is available to help and ‘Taster’ sessions are available if you are new to the sport.

Oakdale GC has a vibrant social life with events planned throughout the year.  During the winter, we hold a monthly Quiz, weekly Bridge afternoon and Dominos evenings.

It gives me great pleasure to be Lady Captain for 2019 and my chosen charity is Yorkshire Cancer Research.  Working alongside my Vice-Captain, Olivia Lambert and the Ladies Committee, I hope to continue the tradition of providing a warm welcome to new members and visitors and ensure that Oakdale GC Ladies Section goes from strength to strength.
