Since mid-May golfers at Oakdale have been able to enjoy playing two-ball golf following the easing of Government guidelines on Covid-19. Despite the lack of any social facilities at the Club golfers, observing social distancing, have enjoyed the wonderful weather and a golf course in excellent condition thanks to the hard work of a limited number of green keeping staff.
Following the Government update of 28 May three and four-balls, comprising of individuals from the same or different households are allowed to play together from 1 June.
As a result of these revised restrictions, the draws for the following mens’ competitions have been made: President’s Prize, Freeholders Trophy, Scratch Match Play and the Jack Wertheimer Trophy.
Restrictions have also been lifted to allow Oakdale’s Professional, Rob Stansfield, to start giving lessons outdoors individually or groups up to five and on a one-to-one basis in the swing studio while maintaining social distancing guidelines. Rob and his Assistant Garth Traynor are also keen to develop and bring on our Junior Section and have planned a series of training and practice activities to develop Juniors of all levels including those new to the game. Rob can be contacted on 07917 868877.
Oakdale is an inclusive club with a great social scene - under normal circumstances! Although we’re not able to socialise at the moment there are a lot of happy faces on the course right now, particularly from the new members who’ve joined us in the last few weeks.
So if you’re thinking of a new way to spend more time in the fresh air or want to take up a new sporting activity that could change your life, give us a call and join the Oakdale golfing family. With a rich history, modern approach to membership and a lively social scene, Oakdale Golf Club is well regarded as one of the best golf clubs in the Yorkshire area.
Whether you are an expert golfer or just keen to try golf for the first time, you'll find a warm welcome at Oakdale.
A reminder to all that OGC is still following the guidelines issued by the Government and England Golf, particularly in relation to social distancing. We are extremely fortunate to be able to play golf again and competitive golf is slowly returning, but that does not mean a return to normal.
The health and safety of our staff, members and visitors is of prime importance.
Visitors are reminded that they should arrive ready to play golf no longer than 15 minutes before their allotted tee time and must leave immediately after finishing their round.
The Clubhouse remains closed, this includes the bar, catering and office. The bar and catering staff are furloughed until such time that we are allowed to re-open.
Two of the Greens staff remain furloughed and the rest are working and complying with government guidelines. The bunkers are still GUR but it is hoped that they will soon be in play. There will be no bunker rakes and visitors are reminded not to handle the flag sticks and play only with their own equipment and golf ball.
Can we remind all visitors that the club house is open for visitors to use the toilets ONLY.
Social distancing of two metres must be maintained at all times including in the car park, when entering the changing rooms, in the professional shop and on the course.
Failure to comply may mean that we could be closed.
The House and Admin teams have plans in place when the government allows the opening of pubs and restaurants and are considering all options.
As soon as we are able to do so we will inform you of a date for re-opening of the club house, offices, the catering and bar facilities.
